William A. Heeres Named Chairman Emeritus, Board of Councilors

Longtime board leader William A. Heeres, PharmD ’63, has been appointed chairman emeritus of the USC School of Pharmacy Board of Councilors.

With David W. Neu heading the Board of Councilors since November, Heeres continues to serve on the board while taking on an advisory position with the newly formed USC Titus Center for Medication Safety and Population Health.

Heeres and his wife, Josephine, have been ardent supporters of the School for decades. In 2002, they provided a gift to establish the William A. and Josephine A. Heeres Chair in Community Pharmacy, the first such chair in the nation. He has been a committed mentor to numerous USC School of Pharmacy students over the years and also chaired the school’s Boldly First fundraising initiative.

A second-generation Trojan pharmacist whose father, Nicholas, graduated from the USC School of Pharmacy in 1934, Heeres received the School of Pharmacy’s Outstanding Alumnus Award in 2010, and the USC Alumni Association’s Alumni Service Award in 2016. He was recently inducted into USC’s Half Century Trojans, which recognizes alumni who graduated at least 50 years ago.

“William Heeres is unmatched in his support of the School and to the university, and the chairman emeritus designation is a reflection of that longstanding commitment,” said Dean Vassilios Papadopoulos. “The School of Pharmacy is grateful to William Heeres and the entire Heeres family for their unwavering dedication.”
