The Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) USC student chapter received second place in the 2021-2022 AMCP Chapter of the Year Award at AMCP Nexus 2022 in National Harbor, Maryland, where over 2,500 pharmacy leaders came together to network and discuss ways to improve population health outcomes.
The Chapter of the Year Award aims to recognize all that AMCP student chapters accomplish on a year-to-year basis and serves to encourage and inspire chapters to strive for new, innovative managed care student programming ventures.
Several student chapters from across the country were evaluated on three self-submitted events and a short essay that detailed how they advanced the mission and vision of AMCP throughout the year. The University of Washington’s AMCP Chapter was awarded first place and the University of Maryland’s AMCP Chapter came in third.
“USC AMCP aims to provide students with educational, networking and service events where they can learn about traditional and nontraditional pharmacy and recognize the importance of improving healthcare delivery with innovative strategies through a population-based approach,” says third-year pharmacy student, Tiffany Huynh, 2022-2023 president of USC AMCP. “Our events continue to provide our members with invaluable knowledge and personal development that will carry them well into their professional careers.”
USC AMCP was recognized for organizing the following programming: Medicare Part D Enrollment Series, USC’s 18th Annual Kaiser Night, and Managed Care 101 Series.
“One of the biggest challenges in the last few years was finding dynamic ways to encourage student participation through virtual events throughout the COVID-19 pandemic,” says Vinson Lee, MS ’01, PharmD ’06, adjunct faculty member and one of the chapter’s four advisors. “The grant will allow USC AMCP to further develop its events and grow its professional network.”
AMCP is a national professional association leading the way to help patients get the medications they need at a cost they can afford. The association’s diverse membership includes healthcare professionals from all sectors of pharmacy who leverage their specialized expertise in clinical evidence and economics to optimize medication benefit design and population health management and help patients access safe medications and other drug therapies.
