Global Experiences

The field of pharmacy knows no borders. International experiences help USC School of Pharmacy students develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes to excel as global healthcare professionals. The school offers a range of opportunities to gain valuable overseas experience. Many are offered through the International Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation, while others are organized by the Office of Global Initiatives.

International APPEs

PharmD students in their P4 year can choose an International Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience to fulfill an elective rotation. In collaboration with the Professional Experience Programs office, the Office of Global Initiatives is building upon existing partnerships to expand the number and diversity of destinations open to students for APPEs. Recent destinations have included the Tokyo University of Pharmacy and Life Sciences, National Taiwan University, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Trinity College Dublin (Ireland) and Sookmyung Women’s University (S. Korea). Anticipated new destinations include Egypt, India, Bulgaria, Colombia and Kenya.

Global Pharmacy Experiences

School of Pharmacy students may also take advantage of short-term international opportunities. Global Pharmacy Experiences are typically two-week programs that provide an introduction to clinical pharmacy education and practice in the host country.

Recent Global Pharmacy Experience sites have included:

  • The Wesley Pharmacy (Queensland, Australia)
  • University of Toyama (Japan)
  • China Pharmaceutical University (Nanjing, China)
  • The Chinese University of Hong Kong
  • Sookmyung Women’s University (Seoul, South Korea)

A new group Global Pharmacy Experience to Bulgaria will be offered in May 2022. More information on the program coming soon.

Undergraduate Programs

Undergraduates in School of Pharmacy majors and minors may choose from the range of study-abroad options open to all USC undergraduates. In addition, the School of Pharmacy may organize faculty-led programs specific to pharmacy. A study-abroad program in Bulgaria and Greece is in the planning stages for May 2022.
