Medical Affairs Fellowship

In collaboration with the USC School of Pharmacy, MannKind Corporation’s Global Headquarters in Westlake Village, California is proud to offer a 1-year Medical Affairs Post-Doctoral Fellowship from July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023. There are 2 fellowship positions that will be offered to motivated and high-performing PharmD fellowship candidates for the 2022 Fellowship Class.

As an integral member of Mannkind’s Medical Team, the fellow will gain exposure and get hands-on practice experience in the Medical Affairs functional specialty in the biopharmaceutical industry. These will include developing, participating, and being an integral team member on business priorities including:

  • Headquarters Medical Information and Vendor Management
  • Field-based external Medical Communications (ie, collaboration with Medical Science Liaisons)
  • Medical Congress Planning and Attendance
  • Publication Planning
  • Advisory Board Development
  • Investigator-Initiated Trials
  • Phase 1-4 Studies (ie, design, development, implementation)
  • Exposure and collaboration with various internal departments (Clinical Development, Regulatory Affairs, Pharmacovigilance, Marketing, Sales/Sales Training, Business Development, etc.

Fellows will have many opportunities to travel to Medical Conferences (based on COVID guidelines) and work on project teams to develop and refine leadership, communication, decision-making, interpersonal, and influence skills.

Training objectives of the fellowship will include:

Mannkind Corporation Component

  • Creating and delivering unbiased fair/scientifically balanced medical information to health care professionals
  • Participating in promotional review committee meetings for commercial materials (sales, sales training, and marketing materials)
  • Working closely with cross-functional staff to develop scientific communication materials for internal and external communications
  • Attending appropriate regional and national medical congresses to support scientific activities and increase disease state knowledge
  • Participating and active contribution to publication planning and external data presentation
  • Partnering with the Medical Science Liaisons (MSL) to engage in field-based activities
  • Working closely with the external and internal safety surveillance teams to capture insights to present to the broader medical and clinical affairs organization
  • Collaborating with the regulatory team to understand regulations that govern advertising, labeling and promotion and learn how to effectively apply regulations and provide guidance
  • Learning about regulatory rules and compliance in countries outside of the US and utilizing procedures, systems, and databases to comply with all regulatory requirements
  • Participating and exposure to clinical research projects (clinical protocols and informed consent forms if applicable) and study planning meetings with cross-functional stakeholders and external partners

 USC Component

In conjunction with the USC School of Pharmacy, fellows will have scholastic and academic opportunities including:

  • Taking professional coursework and completing certificate programs
  • Lecturing industry elective courses
  • Teaching and mentoring senior rotational pharmacy students at a host company
  • Recruitment and selection of the next class of USC post-doctoral fellows at 2021’s ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting

Applicants must have obtained a PharmD from an accredited school of pharmacy within 5 years of initial appointment, and a minimum doctoral program GPA of 3.0. Selected candidates will be invited to schedule an interview at the 2021 ASHP Midyear PPS by email.
