Health-System Pharmacy Administration Residency (USC/SMMC)
Postgraduate Year 2
University of Southern California School of Pharmacy and Saddleback Memorial Medical Center (SMMC) is offering a PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration Residency Program. The residency program is designed to provide a broad experience in pharmacy administration, with specialized emphasis in financial analysis, inventory management, human resources, project management, formulary management, supply chain management and contracting, quality improvement programs, and development of new services. In addition, the resident participates in budget preparation, staff presentations, and receives training in management concepts and principles for the inpatient pharmacy department.
The goal of this PGY2 Residency is to give the resident an overview of pharmacy operations and to prepare the individual to work in healthcare management. The resident will be engaged in teaching, leadership, and research project management development at the USC School of Pharmacy in Los Angeles, California. Primary practice site for all pharmacy administration learning will be at the Saddleback Memorial Medical Center in Laguna Hills, California.
Saddleback Memorial Medical Center, Laguna Hills campus, is a 252-bed acute care community hospital located in South Orange County, part of the MemorialCare Health System. MemorialCare Health System is a not-for-profit integrated delivery system focusing on evidence-based, best practice medicine.
The residency will include long and short-term projects that will encompass all areas of the inpatient pharmacy practice. The primary project focus for this year will be centered on Transitions of Care/Medication Reconciliation. The resident will participate in the further development of a transitions-of-care program with opportunities for medication reconciliation and counseling focusing on high risk patients to reduce 30-day readmissions.
The resident is expected to present a major project at Western States Conference for Pharmacy Residents, Fellows and Preceptors.
The resident is responsible for teaching pharmacy students at the USC School of Pharmacy and for presenting in-services/lectures to pharmacy, nursing, and medical staff at SMMC.
This one-year residency program will begin July 1, 2015 and end June 30, 2016. The PGY2 residency program will not participate in the Residency Matching Program as it is not ASHP accredited at this time. One position is available for this year.
