The pharmacology and pharmaceutical sciences program receives significant funding from the National Institutes of Health, particularly in the areas of molecular mechanisms of disease and drug design, development, targeting and delivery. During undergrad, I was part of a team of pharmacists, psychologists, psychiatrists and doctors at UCI Medical Neuropsychiatric Center who examined patients with disorders ranging from Down’s syndrome to schizophrenia. I observed the pharmacist’s interaction with patients, and how some improved through the drug regimen.

I had a great experience volunteering at a pharmacy in high school. There are so many different aspects of pharmacy and, once you have your PharmD, you can work in retail, inpatient, ambulatory care. It is relatively easy to move in out and of all the departments.
