Infectious Diseases Pharmacology

The University of Southern California School of Pharmacy Fellowship in Infectious Diseases Pharmacology is designed to prepare a motivated individual to become an independent researcher and academician. The program is structured to develop competencies in research emphasizing infectious diseases and clinical pharmacology.

The fellow will conduct hypothesis-driven clinical research and will gain experience in protocol design and implementation, IRB submission, data analysis, and the conduct of clinical and laboratory research projects. The fellow is responsible for completion of 1-2 research projects as primary investigator, with submission of abstracts for presentation at national scientific meetings and manuscripts for publication. Examples of laboratory training include in vitro microbiology and molecular biology techniques, and drug analysis. Opportunities for graduate level coursework (e.g. biostatistics, ethics), didactic and experiential teaching are available and encouraged.

Program mentors for the ID Pharmacology fellowship will be Annie Wong-Beringer, PharmD, and Paul Beringer, PharmD.

Individuals who have completed a PGY1 pharmacy residency and are interested in pursuing a career in infectious diseases/pharmacology are encouraged to apply. Other requirements include licensure or eligibility for licensure to practice pharmacy in California. The one-year fellowship program will begin July 1, 2016 and end June 30, 2017. The fellowship can be extended for an additional year based on continued interest by the fellow and funding availability.
