Academic Pharmacy

The University of Southern California School of Pharmacy Fellowship in Academic Pharmacy is a one-year mentored traineeship designed to prepare the pharmacy professional for a faculty position in academic pharmacy practice.

Fellows gain exposure and participate in various activities in a university setting expected from a faculty member. The fellowship program is designed for faculty development where the fellow will learn to become an effective teacher, design curricula and assess students, as well as participate in research in delivering effective teaching programs.

As part of the training program, the fellow will be taking graduate coursework from the Department of Medical Education offered through the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California in conjunction with the USC School of Pharmacy. Completed coursework can be applied toward the Masters in Academic Medicine.

Program mentors for the academic fellowship will be Kathleen H. Besinque, Pharm.D., MS.Ed, Assistant Dean For Curriculum and Assessment, and William C. Gong, Pharm.D., Director, Residency and Fellowship Training.

Individuals who have completed a PGY1 pharmacy residency and are interested in pursuing a career in academia are encouraged to apply. Other requirements include licensure or eligibility for licensure to practice pharmacy in California. The one-year fellowship program will begin July 1, 2014 and end June 30, 2015.
