Claes W. Hornstrand

Biography

Claes W. Hornstrand was named Executive Director, Value, Access, and Policy for the Intercontinental Region in September 2014. In this capacity Mr. Hornstrand is responsible for a team of six that handles the Price, reimbursement and Access of all inline and pipeline Amgen products for Canada, Latin America, Turkey, Middle East, and Africa.

Prior to this, Mr. Hornstrand was the Executive Director, Global Value, Access, and Policy, Renal and Bone Therapeutic area including EPOGEN®, Aranesp® and Sensipar®, Prolia® as well as several pipeline products with a team of four in 2009. Prior to this, Mr Hornstrand was the executive Director and Brand Lead for Aranesp® Nephrology (at the time gross sales of ~$1B) in the US affiliate with a team of eight in January 2009. Prior to this, he was Senior Director, Corporate Customer Marketing in January 2006. In this capacity Mr. Hornstrand is responsible for a department of 27 that handled the Marketing to: The 330 largest Academic Hospitals in the U.S., Managed Care Organizations, Medicare, Medicaid, Wholesalers, retailers, and Specialty Pharmacies, as well as Amgens Senior Care sales force. Prior to this, Mr. Hornstrand was Regional Sales Director, Nephrology Business Unit . In this capacity he was covering an annual revenue of $800 Million including brands such as EPOGEN®, Aranesp® and Sensipar®. Prior to this, Mr. Hornstrand was Therapeutic Area Head, Global Marketing for 2 years covering Marketing and Development issues with EPOGEN®, Aranesp®, and Sensipar®. Prior to this, Mr. Hornstrand was the Director of Licensing, Sales and Marketing for 2 years.

Previous to working at Amgen, Mr. Hornstrand worked at Abbott Laboratories for 10 years, where he had served in various sales, marketing and Business Development roles both in the U.S. as well as Overseas.

Prior to working at Abbott, Mr. Hornstrand worked at McKinsey & Company for 2 years, where he served as Consultant, and worked on a series of engagements in a variety of industries.

Mr. Hornstrand is a Fulbright Scholar and is fluent in English, Swedish and German.
