Michael Z. Wincor is Associate Professor of Clinical Pharmacy, Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences at the University of Southern California Schools of Pharmacy and Medicine. For nine years, he was the Associate Dean for Continuing Professional Development and for four years the Associate Dean for Technology. Currently, Dr. Wincor is the Associate Dean for Global Initiatives. In this capacity, Dr. Wincor has served as a visiting faculty member and collaborated on pharmacy curriculum at universities throughout Asia and in Europe. He has also facilitated exchange programs with dozens of universities allowing students and faculty an opportunity to both host and visit sister institutions. In addition, he has served as a member of the university’s Committee on Information Services. His current interests focus on sleep and sleep disorders, clinical psychopharmacology, psychiatric pharmacy practice, and global pharmacy education.
Dr. Wincor received his B.S. in Zoology from the University of Chicago, where he was actively involved in sleep research, and his Pharm.D. and Residency Certificate in Psychiatric Pharmacy Practice from USC. He is board certified in psychiatric pharmacy. As a member of the clinical faculty at USC since 1983, he has been involved in training pharmacy students, medical students, pharmacy residents, and psychiatry residents both in the classroom and clinic. His professional affiliations include ACCP, AACP, APhA, ASHP, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and the Sleep Research Society. He has served on the Department of Psychiatry Clinic Policy, Quality Assurance, and Drug Utilization (chair) Committees. He has served on the Board of Trustees of the California Pharmacists Association and as Chairman of the Editorial Review Committee of California Pharmacist. He has served as the Chair of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Global Pharmacy Education Special Interest Group and as a member of the Research and Graduate Affairs Committee. He was elected to and served for three years as a Member-at-Large of the Executive Council of the Academic Section of the Fédération Internationale Pharmaceutique. He currently serves as the Executive Vice President of the Rho Chi National Pharmacy Honor Society. He has been invited by professional, governmental, and private organizations as a reviewer of grants and manuscripts, consultant, and lecturer in clinical psychopharmacology, sleep, and insomnia.
Dr. Wincor has served as President of the USC School of Pharmacy Alumni Association. He has been the advisor to the USC student chapters of both the American Pharmacists Association Academy of Students of Pharmacy and the Rho Chi National Pharmacy Honor Society and has been recognized by both national organizations as faculty advisor of the year. Co-coordinating the Central Nervous System Therapeutics Module and offering electives in Sleep Disorders, in Global Phamacy and in Pharmacy Education, he has been named Professor of the Year for the USC School of Pharmacy fifteen times, and was the recipient of the 10th annual Saklad Memorial Lecture Award in 2007, presented to him by the College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists. He was named a fellow of the USC Center of Excellence in Teaching in 2012 and a distinguished fellow in 2015.
